Texturing your island.

Ok so now you have your island terrain you need to texture it. This means adding the color and details of surfaces. To do this click on "Terrain" and select "Texture". This can be quiet confusing so please leave comments if you have questions.

After that the "Terrain Texture Layers" window will open.

you can add new layers by hitting "Add Layer" and delete Layers by click the image and selecting "Delete Layer". You can also double click the name of the texture to rename it (I.E where it says default on the above picture).

now to change it from the square texture double click on the orange file name next to the picture.

Next the material editor will open,
once that is open type what kind of texture you want such as "grass".After that your search results will appear and you can choose what you want, In my example I am using "Grass 2". Then you can close the "Material Editor".

Now you need to change the "layer texture", do this by clicking the "Change layer Texture" link.

Seeing as this is a brief guide we will do the simple option. A texture box will appear, select the texture "Grey.dds" and hit open.

After that you need to click on the layer and then "Assign Material". you will then notice the layer material will say "grass 2" (or what ever texture name you chose). Once that is done you can close the "Terrain Texture Layers" window.

Now that's the hard part done, now we get to actually paint the texture onto the terrain. you need to select "Terrain" tab in the role bar and select "layer painter"

After you hit Layer painter you will get a similar brush tool to creating the Terrain. This is where you can actually start painting your texture. Click the texture we just created, Chose a radius (How big your brush is), Chose a color and then start painting your terrain.

And that's how you do it, you can add new textures in the "Terrain Texture Layers" and paint till you are satisfied. Remember to add rocks beneath the ocean and sand on the beach etc.
